about

Everybody loves a train, and it seems the Swiss are no exception. Jim and Helene heard this song on an in-flight audio program on Swissair, and tracked it down so that it could be converted into a beer garden stomp. (The SBB is the Schweizerische Bundesbahnen - the Swiss national railway.)

lyrics

Fahren Mit der SBB (German)

Wir fahren mit der SBB
ins grüner land hinein,
und wer nicht mit uns reisen will
der bleibe schön daheim.
Der blaue himmel lacht dazu
vom Rhein- zum Rhonestrand.
Wir fahren mit der SBB
im schönen Schweizerland.

Sind wir am Ziele angelangt
so wandern wir die Höh'n,
und singen "Lieber Schweizerland,
wie bist du doch so schön!"
Dann kehren fröhlich wir zurück,
gebräunt vom sonnenschein,
und fahren mit der SBB
gemütlich wieder heim.

Mr faare mit dr SBB (Swiss)

Mr faare mit dr SBB
do simmer nit ellei
und war nit mit ys faare wott
da blybt halt denn dehei
dr blaui Himmel lacht derzu-e
fom Rhy zum Rhone-schtrand
mr faare mit dr SBB
im schöne Schvyzerland

Und simmer denn am Zyl aako
fo nöcher oder färn
do singe mr lieb Schvyzerland,
wie hämmer di so gärn!
Am Oobe goots den frölig zrugg,
dr Dag isch brächtig xii
mr faare mit dr SBB
und laaden euch au y!

Riding on the SBB

We're riding on the SBB [Swiss National Railway]
Throughout the lush countryside,
and whomever doesn't wish to come along
can jolly well stay home.
The blue sky laughs along with us
from the Rhine to the Rhone.
We're riding on the SBB
in beautiful Switzerland.

When we arrive at our destination
we wander through the heights,
singing "Beloved Switzerland,
how beautiful thou art!"
Then merrily we return,
tanned from the sun,
and ride again safely and comfortably
on the SBB back home.
